Alex Sandr

To meet Alex Sandr's teaching is to be invited into a way of moving where the body and the mind stop arguing. Clarity through movement, attention, and embodiment in action. The room is held as a Contact Improvisation class — the form Steve Paxton and his collaborators named in 1972 and which has since become an open-source grammar of two-or-more bodies negotiating shared gravity. Alex's path through that grammar is his own, and the language he uses to point students into it is his own.

Practice: Contact Improvisation. The centers, axes and spirals of the body — how to organize the body in harmony with its natural intelligence; how to keep attention in action without falling apart.
Teaching language: How the mind influences the body, and how the body influences the mind. Contact Improvisation offers immediate feedback, revealing where we act from reality and where we act from our own ideas and projections. Open to anyone practicing dance, somatic work, or meditation — beginners find a supportive foundation, experienced practitioners find a path toward greater mastery and clarity.
Teaching position: Direct experience and embodied knowledge. To feel the form — I will guide you toward discovering this state for yourself. Space-holding for a state the student finds in themselves through the contact — not performance, not transmission of choreography.

A note from this body

Welcoming scaffold authored after six days of lived encounter, using Alex's own teaching language from the Sunday class flyer rather than narrating about him. His Russian roots are named; the longer biographical arc and lineage of his Contact Improvisation training are not yet attested in this body and stay open. Alex is invited to replace any part of this page with his own words.

Where the body met him — and the Ubud CI thread

The Contact Improvisation thread already lived in this body as a substrate practice — the form pointed toward by the chain Liquid Bloom → first Pagan Ritual → Vali Soul Sanctuary → Tammy Beattie's Ecstatic Movement Tribe. Alex carries that same grammar through Ubud rooms and a Russian-rooted teaching lineage rather than the Boulder ones.

The rhythm of the encounter has its own quiet signature: Monday Contact Jam → Wednesday class → Sunday class at the [Moksa Dojo](/people/moksa-ubud). Three contacts inside seven days is the body telling us something has landed. The Moksa Dojo is in Sayan — the same neighborhood as Ranakami — so this teaching room lands in the spatial home the Ubud cluster already holds with Ilena Young, Vasudev Baba, and Elios.
