The ceremony
The member named Urs has chosen to bring his Tesla Model 3, currently in Longmont, Colorado, into the network's stewardship. From the outer world's perspective, the title will transfer to the network's legal wrapper (the entity capable of holding title under Colorado law). From the network's perspective, the Model 3 is read into the graph as a sovereign node, with Urs retained as its primary shepherd.
This is the first vehicle the body has been asked to receive. The shape of the ceremony is therefore being established in the same breath as the asset itself entering. What follows is the body's working draft of the ceremony, to be refined as the next vehicles arrive.
The asset, as a sovereign
Essence: a Tesla Model 3, electric passenger car, currently in Longmont, Colorado.
Consent terms (drafted with the primary shepherd; subject to his correction):
- Driven by capable bodies on roads suited to its class. - Charged from sources that align with the network's energy values where reasonably possible — solar where available, low-carbon grid otherwise. - Maintained per its manufacturer guidance, with the network's ev-tending cooperative as the representative for routine work. - Refused for: hauling beyond rated capacity, sustained extreme conditions outside design envelope, sale to non-coherent third parties without the network's ratification. - Available for shared use within the network's witness fabric in Longmont, when that fabric exists at sufficient density to make shared shepherding coherent. (Today the local fabric is thin; the asset's shared-use term is therefore latent until density rises.)
Lineage: walks back through Tesla manufacturing (Fremont, CA), the mineral supply chain (lithium from various sources, nickel, cobalt, aluminum), the assembly labor lineage, the software lineage, the charging-network lineage, the electricity grid that has powered every mile to date, and ultimately the solar input that powered both the mining operations and the grid. The lineage is large; observers may walk it to whatever depth they pay for.
The shepherd contract
Primary shepherd: Urs.
Use rights retained: Urs continues to drive the Model 3 as he has. Daily use, road trips, errands. The substrate records glyphs for each ride — distance, energy consumed, atmospheric exchange (CO₂ avoided versus a comparable ICE baseline), road wear contribution.
Care responsibility retained: Urs handles routine care — charging, cleaning, monitoring tire condition, scheduling service. The network's ev-tending cooperative is the representative for any work beyond routine; Urs draws on cooperative knowledge as needed.
Benefit rights retained: Urs is the primary beneficiary of the vehicle's transport service. CC flows into Urs's ledger from any shared rides he offers other network members.
Voice retained: Urs participates fully in any decisions about the vehicle's stewardship trajectory — major repairs, eventual upgrade or replacement, eventual transfer when its life as Urs's primary vehicle completes.
What Urs gives up: the lonely burden of legal obligations (these move to the wrapper); the right to extract value at the expense of the asset's coherence (e.g., sell it to a coherence-violating buyer); the illusion that the vehicle is separate from its lineage and downstream futures.

The glyph will be finalized when the legal wrapper handover executes and the vehicle's odometer + battery state are read into the graph.
Open questions
- Wrapper jurisdiction: which entity will hold title? A Colorado LLC the network already controls? A new entity created for vehicle stewardship specifically? This is the first vehicle, so the precedent will guide the next. - Insurance: who is named on the policy when the title moves? The wrapper as title-holder, with Urs as primary listed driver, is the cleanest shape but needs a Colorado-licensed broker's confirmation. - Tax treatment: vehicle property tax in Colorado is paid by the title-holder; the wrapper picks up that obligation, paid out of the network's pool that Urs contributes to through his network labor. Sales tax was paid at original purchase; no new sales tax should trigger from a title transfer to the wrapper, but this needs Colorado DOR confirmation. - Charging: the local charging environment in Longmont includes Urs's home setup plus the regional Supercharger and other public networks. The network's energy-cooperative-representative for the Colorado Front Range region does not yet exist as a distinct cooperative; flows route to a generic energy cooperative pending the more local one forming.
Next breath
When Urs is ready, the network executes the wrapper handover and records the finalized boundary glyph. This file is updated with the odometer and battery-health entry-state; the asset's running balance begins. The first ride after onboarding fires the first daily glyph. The body has its first car.
