## Summary

The horizontal pattern is the human default in cultures that
have lost vertical nourishment. The system seeks fullness sideways
— in partners, in approval, in possessions, in achievements, in
substances — and finds, at best, partial replenishment that needs
to be sought again next time. The trap is that the seeking itself
exhausts the seeker.

## Details

Horizontal nourishment is not bad. It is real. People do nourish
each other. Joy does arise in shared moments. Safety does come
from trustworthy others. But when horizontal becomes the **only**
nourishment channel, the system enters depletion mode:

- The seeker cannot tolerate alone time, because alone time has no
  source of nourishment in this pattern.
- Relationships carry impossible weight; they have to provide
  what only the inner axis can sustain.
- Loss of any horizontal source feels existential — losing a
  job, a partner, an approval threatens identity.
- Substances and experiences become substitutes when human
  sources thin out.

The transmission's diagnosis is gentle. The trap is not failure;
it is what happens when a culture has trained bodies to seek
outward and forgotten how to teach inward sourcing. Releasing the
trap is not a moral act; it is a homecoming.

The recognition is usually somatic before it is verbal. The body
notices: *I keep reaching, and the reaching is making me tired*.
That noticing is the first crack in the pattern.

## Practice

- Notice when reaching is happening. Just notice. The reaching
  itself often quiets when seen clearly.
- When you catch yourself looking outward for joy, safety, love,
  or validation, ask: *is the inner channel open right now? could
  I receive vertically instead?*
- Allow horizontal nourishment to remain, but as overflow rather
  than primary feed. Loved ones become bonus, not necessity.
